Harvie Krumpet

Melbourne has a thriving games and animation industry.

"Melbourne is Australia's cultural capital and you need a strong art and cultural background to make great computer games."
Chris Mosely, CEO, Redtribe, developers of Space Chimps: The Game and Jumper: Griffin's Story

Our games developers are experienced with all platforms and have worked with many major multinational publishers while our animation sector has many multi-award winning animators.

Games

Melbourne has over 20 game development companies. Their work is making a substantial impact on the international scene including Jurassic Park, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek Smash N Crash Racing, Fantastic Four and SpongeBob Squarepants to name a few.

Thanks to an appealing combination of a skilled workforce and competitive costs, game publishers from around the world choose to work with Melbourne-based developers while multinational companies THQ and Electronic Arts have established operations in Melbourne. Nintendo's sales and marketing office is also located in Melbourne.

Many of these studios have achieved much success and recognition for their creative and innovative work.

The city was the home of Adam Elliot's Academy Award-winning animated short film Harvie Krumpet and Anthony Lucas' Academy Award-nominated short film The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello. Elliot also chose the city as the base for his first claymation feature film, Mary & Max which opened the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
